Integrated Troops, a Brand Activation & Experiential Marketing agency, has lent its support to the United Nation’s “No Alcohol Day” scheduled for October 2, 2019, as it unveils a social cause campaign to discourage alcohol abuse.
Commenting on the campaign teaser which currently runs on social media, Winnie Omozuyi, Corporate Activation Executive, Integrated Troops explained that the danger of alcohol on the society, in general, cannot be overemphasized hence the company’s decision to intervene in its little way.
According to the World Health Organization statistics, there are 2.5 million alcohol-related deaths each year, and of these, 320,000 are of people between the ages of 15 and 29.
In view of its grave consequences on the society, in 2008, at a meeting of the World Health Assembly (WHA)—the decision making body of the World Health Organization (WHO)—in Geneva, Switzerland, a proposal was made by India for a global alcohol-free day to take place on Gandhi’s birthday.
Making the proposal, Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss, India’s Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, said the purpose of the day was to draw attention to the health risks of the abuse of alcohol. The proposal was supported by 11 Southeast Asian countries.
The Integrated Troops’ Senior Executive revealed that the proposal came as part of a larger effort by the WHO to reduce alcohol-related problems with all member states—193 at the time—signed a resolution calling for a global strategy to address the issue to be developed over the next two years.
Though the “World No Alcohol Day” was yet to be officially adopted, but it has been observed by many, including the International Council of Nurses. It is observed annually on October 2nd since 2008.
According to WHO, alcohol is the third leading cause of poor health around the world. You could observe the day by learning about the harmful effects of alcohol and raising awareness about these effects amongst your cycle of influence.
Also, in May 2010, a global strategy (WHA63.13) was adopted by the WHA. It focused on ten areas for national action and four priority areas for global action.
As the 2019 “World No Alcohol Day” is scheduled to be observed next on Wednesday, October 2nd, Integrated Troops is employing the cause to herald its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) platform ‘Take a Pause’ as it plans to unveil the main campaign – “Shayo” executions targeted at reinforcing global efforts to deter excessive consumption of alcohol.
According to the Omozuyi, the execution is designed to call attention to the dangerous effects of alcoholic indulgence. “And it’s a good time, because we are also reactivating our Lagos office”.
“We are deploying a channels smart mix with online and experiential inputs that should trigger expected outputs amongst targets and outcomes amongst alcoholics. We expect the message to be shared, and the day marked in a light-hearted manner in homes or groups with alcohol-free beverages”.
Later on Wednesday, the Corporate Activation Executive revealed that the agency and its associates shall be hanging out with friends “in our individual cycle of friends across Alcohol-free tables” to drum home the import of the 2019 World No Alcohol Day.
