Clement Omemu, Ag. Managing Director, Rosabel Advertising
Nigeria’s Clement Omemu, who currently leads Rosabel Advertising as Ag. Managing Director has departed the country for Durban, South Africa as a member of the Jury (television) at the on-going Lorrie Awards.
Lorries Awards is South Africa’s Cannes Lions Advertising Festival, it holds annually in the former apartheid enclave but moves from city to city while the current one is holding in Durban. Usually the organisers of the Lorries appoint regional judges from all parts of Africa, sometimes, extending their search to other parts of the globe.
Shortly before, Mr. Omemu left the shores of the country to be part of the Jury at the 2015 Lorrie, Brandcrunch had an interaction with him where he revealed, “this year, I have been appointed to represent West Africa as the regional judge in the TV category”
According to him, prior to his departure, he had been had been taking on behalf of Lorrie the assessments of the regional entries in off-line judging aimed at pruning down the number of entries for the finals.
To qualify for the role of the Jury, organisers of the awards as a prerequisites- considered a prospective judge’s qualifications, pedigree, awards won as creative director or head of an agency, the brands worked and working on among others.
Afetr due background checks, Omemu was found qualified after having worked as a creative in the brands building business for over 26 years.
For the erstwhile creative director, getting on the Jury of Lorrie portends that “talking about creative fire power, we have it here, may be we are a bit shy, I don’t know”.
According to him, during the judgement for the regional entries, he noticed that there was not a single entry from West Africa. There were entries from East Africa, South Africa, North Africa, Middle East but none from West Africa especially from Nigeria.
It speaks volume that we have become so much encumbered with our Lagos Advertising & Ideas Festival (LAIF) Award in Nigeria, we are still trying hard to remain local, he explained while adding, “the other thing is that agencies may feel what they have is not good enough or it may be due to financial reasons but I think we have it.
“ I know we have it the issue is for us to showcase it by going out there and participating in such industry events. They respect us but we need to show more of what we have”, he said. {fcomments}
