Late Wasiu Kolawole Subair
Friends and associates of the Subairs won long and somber faces earlier this evening, as the service of songs/ wake keep held for their beloved Late Wasiu Kolawole Subair, General Manager/COO, Brand First, who died Friday, 26th September, 2014.
Late Mr. Subair, aged 47, was said to have died of cardiac arrest in the early morning of that day in his home located on Olusegun Ogundana Street, off Emmanuel Keshi, Off Grandview Hotel, Magodo GRA.
In an emotion laden voice the wife Mrs. Omobolanle Subair who he got married to in 2002, said Kola gave all his life serving his maker. “Although your time here seems so short, you have succeeded in making indelible prints in the hearts many that come across your path. The proof of this is all the condolences and encomiums that followed the news of your passing to glory”.
“You have written your name in gold on the hearts of men by your acts of selflessness, patience, hard work, love, kindness and gentleness – influencing others for the greater good”, his widow sobbed.
The officiating ministers from his church, Redeemed Christian Church of God, House of His Glory Parish, Off Allen, Ikeja, Lagos attest to Kola’s steadfastness even in the church. One of the Pastors, Pastor Jerry Elewononi Corroborates, “I gave him an assignment in the church over two years ago, he never missed a Sunday. He never missed any night vigil”. The clergies consoled the families and associates with the fact that the departed whose Christ has come, knew Christ”.
They urged sympathisers to live every day and minutes as their last as the Lord can come for anyone at any time.
Born in Lagos in April 1967 to a Diplomat father from Ilorin, Kwara State, the family shortly after Kola’s birth left for the United Kingdom and then moved to America.
On return to Nigeria after his primary education abroad, he had a stint at the Ansar-ud –Deen School, and three years later he was in New Delhi, India where he completed his secondary education. Thereafter, he proceeded to University of Lagos and graduated with a BSc in Political Science.
Kola chose to work in Advertising and distinguished himself as an expert in media planning, buying and control. He also had a stint in corporate Communications on the client’s side.
He commenced his working carrier with SO&U Saatchi & Saatchi working in the media department alongside Tolu Ogunkoya, now Managing Director, MediareachOMD. He left to pitch his tent with Explicit Communications where he rose to become the head of Media. He also worked in the same department at the Lowe Lintas working under Robert Odii. He later joined notable Media Independent Shop, Starcom Media working with Ayo Oluwatosin and and Ayo Kupoluyi as Managing Director and General Manager respectively.
Kola later crossed over to the clients’ side finding a place in the corporate Communications department of UBA where he worked for about four year. He later returned to his first love Advertising pitching his tent with Brand First Media Resources, a media specialist agency in the Franchise Advertising group as GM/COO.
Reacting to his death, Tunde Thani, CEO, Explicit Communications, Kola’s employer many years ago, with whom he still maintained cordial relationship until his death, extols Kola virtue simplicity, selflessness and professionalism while expressing shock at his demise.
Similarly, Ayo Kupoluyi, Managing Director, Starcom Media, who was visibly devastated by the sudden demise, says at the service of songs, “it’s so sudden and unbelievable that Kola is no more. We will all miss him as professional colleagues and friends”.
In the same vein, Odun Fadoju, Managing Director, DP Partnership+FCB, one of the companies in the Franchise Group where the deceased worked until his death, says “He was a symbol of humility, trust worthy and hard-working, we will sorely miss his professionalism as a group”.
Commendation service holds 10am tomorrow at RCCG, House of His Glory while interment follows at the Atan cemetery. Born a Muslim, Kola gave his life to Christ in 1999 and remained steadfast in the Christian faith. He is survived by a wife, Omobolanle and two daughters Moyinoluwa and Oluwatobiloba.
