The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the suspended Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele.
It will be recalled that the DSS had accused Emefiele of involvement in various acts of terrorism financing, economic crimes of national security dimension and “gargantuan fraud.”
Several other “damning” allegations against the suspended CBN governor, as revealed in preliminary investigations by the DSS, were also contained in the security reports submitted by the secret police to the immediate past President Mohammadu Buhari.
But the apex bank boss severally shunned invitations by the DSS for questioning, hiding under a purported “Presidential Order” from former President Buhari insulating himself and other CBN chiefs from any probe by the secret police and other security agencies.
A memo signed by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey confirmed the CBN Governor’s suspension Friday night.
The statement reads in part, “Mr Emefiele has been directed to immediately hand over the affairs of his office to the Deputy Governor (Operations Directorate), who will act as the Central Bank Governor pending the conclusion of investigation and the reforms”
