The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK), Boris Johnson, has revealed in his goodwill message to Nigerians that Nigerians living in Britain make enormous contributions across their society.
This was contained in a letter of goodwill by the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom (UK) to President Muhammadu Buhari on the occasion of Nigeria’s 60th Independence Anniversary on October 1, 2020.
According to the letter dated September 30, 2020, Boris Johnson congratulated President Buhari and the Nigerian people on the country’s Independence Day anniversary. He expressed his desire to maintain the cordial relationship between the two countries.
The letter read, “On behalf of the UK, I would like to express my warm wishes to both you and the people of Nigeria on the 60th Anniversary of Nigeria’s independence. The UK and Nigeria, as long-standing friends and Commonwealth members, enjoy a close, forward-looking relationship.”
The Prime Minister added, “This anniversary is an opportunity to celebrate the extraordinary spirit of the Nigerian people – which I not only experienced first-hand during my visit in 2017, but I see on display every day in the UK as Nigerians make enormous contributions across our society. I look forward to many more years of friendship between the UK and Nigeria and for the chance for us to speak in person again soon.”
This comes on the heels of Her Majesty Queen of England’s goodwill message on Nigeria@60 conveyed by the British High Commission in Nigeria to the President of the Federal Republic, Mohammad Buhari.
According to the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina’s statement on the letter titled, “The Queen of England congratulates Nigeria on 60th independence anniversary,” Queen Elizabeth II offered her best wishes for Nigeria’s continued happiness and prosperity.
“She pointed out that the United Kingdom and the Federal Republic of Nigeria shared a special bond that she hopes would flourish long into the future”, he said.
