GTBank will allow external developers access to its products development infrastructure by commissioning Application Programming Interface, API sandbox before the end of June.

Speaking at the launch of GTWorld, Managing Director of GTBank, Segun Agbaje said, “We are going to open some of our APIs to the development community to drive new innovations around our products.”

Today’s software architecture relies on APIs as central to the application, the same way database or user interface is an essential component of the architecture. The reliance on APIs means that application testers have to test the application’s reaction to a variety of API responses.

By opening its APIs to the third party developers, the bank “reduces the cost and risk” associated with inviting third party APIs during testing. It also allows for “concurrent testing and development to fast-track app development cycles”.

The sandbox will “reduce time-to-market and simulate error scenarios” with the API such as latency in the API’s response time, error conditions or simulating a non-responsive API completely.

With the sandbox, development teams can deploy confidently because “everything is fully tested using virtual APIs” to simulate a variety of errors.
