A young Nigerian dude and marketing whiz kid, Tomijogun Ogunlesi, MBA -9 class of the Lagos Business School and Strategic Planning Personnel with Bates Cosse, although on a sabbatical leave from the agency, has won a scholarship to attend the Wunderman/Y&R Young Marketers School.
The announcement came earlier this week for Ogunlesi to participate in the first ever Young Marketers School being organized by Wunderman/Y & R in conjunction with Cannes Lions. The school will take place during the forthcoming Dubai Lynx Advertising Festival in March.
The young strategic planner who is billed to conclude his MBA programme at the prestigious Lagos Business School, Nigeria is currently has a one year contract with Reckitt Benckiser, as a Campus Brand Manager, a newly created position targeted at MBA candidates with interests in Marketing. The initial contract term terminates October 2012.
The new Wunderman / Y&R Young Marketers School is a learning programme that addresses why creativity matters to brands today. The school is aimed at marketers and brand managers aged 32 years or under who are working within a client organisation. Candidates will be coached on how to develop effective creative campaigns by identifying trends, looking at the impact of digital on the market and exploring the client – agency relationship.
Critical on the objectives of the Wunderman / Y&R Young Marketers School is to equip young marketers with the skills and best practices so they can apply them practically to their work, whilst simultaneously taking inspiration from the Dubai Lynx 2012 Festival. Some aspects of the provisional framework of the school include: Why creativity matters for today’s successful brands; Creative effectiveness; The impact of digital and The modern brand. Others include managing the creative process and, of course, taking learning from the Dubai Lynx seminars.
Apart from the selected young marketers, the course is designed for Advertising managers, Brand managers, Business development managers, Communications managers, Marketing managers, Media managers and Sales managers.
Speaking with Brandcrunch, Ogunlesi says he is very excited about the learning opportunities inherent in the Wunderman Young Marketers School especially being one of the beneficiaries of the maiden edition. Touching on his future plans, the unassuming young man says “For now, I’m with Reckitt Benckiser, as a Campus Brand Manager. After the contract, the I guess I’d have to weigh my options between returning to full time advertising/IMC practice on the Agency side or pursuing more brand management opportunities on the client’s side.{jcomments on}
